Last Leaf Productions present the Emperor and the Nightingale at Utsalady Elementary on 6/6
Camano Island Library’s Children’s Liaison Mary Jennings reports on the official beginning of the summer reading season:
On June 6th we had Last Leaf Productions present "The Emperor and the Nightingale" at Elger Bay & Utsalady elementary schools here on Camano. The students were completely engaged with the compelling way the actors presented this age-old folk tale. The programs, funded by the Sno-Isle Foundation, were presented to get students excited about summer reading. Research shows that kids who read consistently over the summer maintain the reading skills they work so hard to acquire during the school year. Public libraries have a long tradition of partnering with schools in order to keep children reading all summer long. Camano Island Library is no exception. We have a rich summer program that includes reading logs to help kids track their reading and a wide variety of entertaining shows (funded by the Camano Island Library Friends & the Sno-Isle Foundation, assisted by a grant from Viking Village) that are sure to get families into the library. We are also giving away fabulous prizes that include books, giant cookies, Aquasox tickets and a personal visit from the bookmobile. Please visit our website or stop by the library to get all the details about summer reading at the Camano Island Library.
