Why are the Friends Holding an Auction?
The Camano Island Library Pilot Project is so called because initially we were only funded for 3 years, with our lease due to run out at the end of June 2010. The plan was to gauge interest in the Camano community for a permanent facility, to be funded by a library bond measure. We would have run a bond campaign before now, but the economy took a nosedive and it seemed the time wasn't right. Our Friends group worked out an agreement with the Sno-Isle Board to extend our lease until such time as a successful bond is passed. Part of that agreement is a promise that the Friends will raise at least $20,000 a year to help offset the cost of the lease. Thus, "Reading Between the Vines" a dinner and auction 5 PM Saturday March 20 at the Camano Island Community & Senior Center to benefit the Camano Island Library. Tickets on sale now, and you can view the auction items they've collected so far here.
