Concerto for Beach

Thanks to some of the comments from the last blog entry, I realize I missed listing some great bird books to bring to the beach. Shorebirds of the Pacific Northwest is essential, and Birdsongs of the Pacific Northwest is handy because the compact disc included allows you to identify stage-shy birds by song alone. Birds of the Puget Sound Region is also a great pocket-size beach companion. Some local NPR radio stations run the Birdnote series, and both NPR and CBC Radio have featured classical composers like Delius, Messiaen and Respighi who utilize birdsong in some of their compositions. (You know, with all this racket at the beach, it's a wonder I can get ANY reading done!)
